Snowfall at Schiphol Disrupts Flight Operations as Cancellations Increase

Severe winter conditions in the Netherlands continue to negatively affect operations at Schiphol Airport. Due to snowfall and icy conditions, widespread cancellations and delays are being recorded in flight schedules.

Rising Number of Cancellations at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

  • Approximately 380 flights were cancelled yesterday
  • Around 500 flights have been cancelled today
  • About 300 cancellations are expected for tomorrow

Assessments of the weather situation are continuing in line with forecasts issued by the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). Authorities note that snowfall is expected to intensify again during the night, while snow removal and de-icing operations on runways and aprons are ongoing without interruption.

Schiphol management stated that operational capacity is being reassessed in half-day intervals depending on weather conditions. While snow clearance and de-icing teams remain on standby, heavy snowfall has prevented flight traffic from being maintained at planned levels.

The Netherlands’ flag carrier KLM is among the airlines most affected by the cancellations, with delays also occurring on services that continue to operate. European routes in particular are reported to be more heavily impacted by the current winter conditions.

Schiphol officials are advising passengers to check the latest flight status before traveling to the airport.
